Perrysburg Rotary Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant to Sunshine Communities

The Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Sunshine Communities in support of Sunshine’s fundraising campaign to raise funds for a new HVAC system for its indoor therapeutic pool. The pool, which is used by individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, has been closed for more than 18 months based on the need to replace the aging HVAC system. The pool is also used by many other community groups including the Metroparks, physical therapy departments and other groups who help those with developmental disabilities.

Sunshine Communities’ goal was to raise the remaining $100,000 necessary during the month of August in order to receive a matching donation of $100,000 from Perrysburg Rotarian Mike McGivern of McGivern Jewelers. The goal was surpassed by a significant amount. The donations mean that Sunshine can move forward with reopening the pool and purchase additional items to improve safety and accessibility and for future maintenance.

“We view Sunshine Communities as an important asset for our community, which is the reason we have supported them in the past with other grants,” says Jack Sculfort, Executive Director of the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation. “This specific grant reflects our continued effort to foster inclusion and enhance the quality of life for all members of the community. It is organizations like Sunshine that make this area a special place in which to live.”
